vBulletin Integration - Live and working!

My clipshare site is now up and running.

The two sites are on different servers and of course on different db's.

This is working great for me! Each time a change is made to a profile on either side the script is triggered to send data to the other.

Hello,

I am a member of the team that did the work for Paul_G. The integration is currently designed specifically for remote installations, and these are the current features:

Current CS2.x-VB3.6.x Integration Features
The integration currently includes only user database synchronization; it allows you to delete,add,edit users from vBulletin and have your CS database updated instantly. The synchronized fields are the following (those in common with vB):

- username
- password
- e-mail
- ban status (a user banned on vBulletin is set as inactive in CS)

If your CS and vB installation share the same main domain (for example, forum.yourdomain.com and cs.yourdomain.com), the integration also allows integration of cookies. In other words, a user logged into your forums won't have to relogin in ClipShare.

The installation process (which we will do for you), is made of three big steps:

1. Conversion of your CS database to use MD5 (encrypted, much safer than CS's default unencrypted system) passwords with salt variable.
2. Installation of CS's modified files (7 files, with our edits clearly marked so that you can easily review them); additionally, all our CS's modified files include basic security checks not included in the buggy CS's files (we have yet to check 2.6's code).
3. Installation and configuration of vBulletin's plugin (no files are modified - we just need to import one XML product).

Deployment of existing version should take 48-72 hours. Development of a custom integration could delay significantly deployment (some weeks).

CS3 Integration
Since the code of the new system was not released, we cannot give a price quote or ETA for an integration for CS 3.x. Unless CS 3 includes a plugin system, the integration will require code hacking also in the new version.

Anyhow, we expect that development of a CS3 integration should take two weeks.

Pros and Cons
The limits of the integration are obvious:
1 - Synchronize only these fields - username,password,email,ban status
2 - Requires file editing on CS side (but all our changes are clearly marked in the code) AND database modification (passwords are encrypted, some fields are added)
3 - If you have already two different databases with plenty of users there might be issues synchronizing them since duplicate usernames aren't obviously allowed. Having a clean CS user database is preferred

The good things are:
1 - Instant synchronization of the two databases (no delayed stuff, no cronjobs involved)
2 - IMPORTANT: Designed specifically for remote integration - so you can purchase a CS-affiliated hosting program and keep your vB in your current forums. This saves bandwidth and system resources, and it's something you will need sooner or later.
3 - Safe - communication between remote servers is encrypted. Additionally, if you are running CS 2.5, our edited CS files include basic security checks not performed in normal CS 2.5 files. Additionally, the system includes encryption of the password column
4 - No vB's file edits
5 - Very clean, simple, lightweight code

New features (Added April-May 2008):
- Avatar synchronization: users upload their avatars through vBulletin and they will show on CS as well
- PM variables from vBulletin available on CS side. You can use them in your templates to check if a user has PMs available on their vB side.
- Postbit link to video profile automatically added through ACP. You can turn it on/off from vB ACP.
- Documentation section containing further customization tips.

We are often on MSN at development@psfantasy.com, on gTalk at server.psfantasy@gmail.com. Price is $135 if you install it yourself (only possible if your CS database is empty and if you have some PHP and MySQL knowledge to perform the edits), or $200 for installation service, usually performed within 24-36 hours.

No, they don't have to sign up again. The db's are synced.
