Help! "video conversion in progress"

I have installed clip-share semi-successfully to a linux box running Ubuntu 9 server edition. I have set all the config files and under the "system check" everything comes up writeable and/or found so it looks like it's working.... until after I upload a movie then there is an image that shows "conversion in process."

It is a quad-core 3 ghz machine with 8 gb of memory and 1 tb of disk space so I imagine a 30 second divx clip wouldn't take long but it has been hours!

Please help

Additional:

I am a somewhat newbie to linux. When I installed ffmpeg all I did was type...
"sudo apt-get install ffmpeg" in the console. Is that all I needed to do? Do I need to add that to php.ini? Do I need to move a ffmpeg.so file into extensions?

I checked out the error_log file and found this gets printed everytime I upload a video and the conversion process tries to start. HELP!
