Unable to create thumbs on new content delivery network

Hey guys,
Hoping someone can help me out with this.
I am switching over to a CDN for delivery of my thumbs and videos. However, when I try to convert and create thumbs onto this new network, it is telling me that the new folder is not writable, even though I have switched the CHMOD to 777.
Am I missing something. My assumption was that I just had to change the location of the folders in config.php and then change the CHMOD. Is there something else I have to change?

I hope you do not imagine that you can create thumbs from video that is located on different server in easy way.

That was my hope, but I guess that's not the case, eh?
I suppose I can move all of the writable folders to that new server, if that makes it easier.
If I do that, what do I change in the script to tell it to direct uploads and whatnot to the new ftp server?

thumbs can be only created by the script that is located on same server that video file is.
