help with information in how to setup a site

Hi,

I have some question about how to setup a site and I'll be thankful for any information u provide.

I have been testing sites using clipshare with dialup (large number of users still using dialup or shared DSL in my region) and came up with this:

the most fast are tube1 and pornhub in loading pages and displaying thumbnails but streaming vidoes r too high for a dialup, but I found that yahoo videos are streaming good with dialup. so my questions are:

1- what is the best configuration to match tube1 and pornhub in speed of displaying pages and thumbnails ? is it hardware, multi-servers or software ?
2- what is the best configuration to match yahoo in streaming so we can serve low connection users ?

There's no best configuration for CS script if you're talking of speed.
All depends on machine you run the script, and machine system.
You want to stream like yahoo, but did you ask yourself: do I have a budget like yahoo?

LOL, I've been reading this forum alot and every thread that interest me and try to read it I see u the first to comment and spoil it honestly when I started this thread I was praying that u will not be the first to reply so u will not spoil my thread but I guess we dont get every thing we hope for.

third, the video quality in yahoo is low, the videos in ur site r way better, does that mean u have budget more than YAHOO ?!?!

If you can't read or understand - not my fault.
You want yahoo speed - go on, invest millions in multiple powerful machines and big team to take care of it.

again you didn't mention it. All you asked was "speed" and "configuration" I answered - speed depends on machine

All you asked was "CONFIGURATION".
No word of hardware or server specs, so don't make dumb of yourself + learn to write (and read) with understanding.

First of all... Dargre was not being rude. He just has a rather cynical way of responding, but actually it's what it known as "ironic humor."

The two questions have virtually the same answer.

1. It did appear to me that you were asking about CS configuration in your first question, and so Dargre did seem (to my understanding) to answer your question appropriately when he replied "there is no best CS configuration, if you're talking of speed.". However, what he should have detailed was the part of his answer, which maybe he assumed you would extrapolate, that is... speed is related to your own hosting sites service specifications (and not a CS configuration issue). Let me detail further what my experience is about the host and your CS display of pages and thumbnails. If you are wanting the site to display pages with dial-up rapidly, the same considerations would apply that you would have on any html (or php) pages... adequate bandwidth allotment is essential (which may not be consistent with the bandwidth you think you are paying for... because if your host's servers are under heavy load from their other customers' usages, you will only get a proportion of what's supposed to be available to you). Having a host that really can consistently deliver what they advertise is essential for your dial-up visitors to be able to load pages (I use "theplanet" and they seem to do a good job). How does the Clip-share demo site fare with your dial-up tests? That one is also hosted on "theplanet."

But really, from what I have discovered, to truly host a video site you need to be able to have an adequate multi-server set up like the sites you mention have done. Load distribution is paramount in order to be able to display anything properly, where you are requiring a number of images to appear on the page. I am working to set up to have the thumbnails and other images hosted separately from any of the conventional html-type pages generated by the program. Video hosting will be done on several other servers. I think you will find that the sites (or really their hosting situations) you mention have a wide bandwidth "pipe" and perhaps ample caching capacity.

2. About Yahoo streaming... although Darge's answer did seem a bit flippant, he is quite correct. The way Yahoo achieves that type of streaming comes from the type of server network described most recently as "the cloud." The credit for "cloud hosting" often goes to Google, but others (such as Yahoo and AOL and Amazon) actually were the pioneers. They literally have thousands of servers connected with specialized sophisticated software which distributes load from locations all over the world.

Amazon offers cloud computing to the public (people like you and me) with a service called the Elastic Cloud (EC2). And recently, hosting provider Rackspace has offered a new cloud computing service through its subsidiary Mosso to compete with Amazon’s EC2. You should check to see what both of those are saying. As my second effort (after my multiple server approach), I am also working to get my site distributing videos and thumbnails through the Amazon Cloud system.

Dargre (making a joke) intimated that you would have to have budget like Yahoo, but you really don't need a massive budget with the new Amazon and Rackspace cloud computing solutions. Please cut Dargre some slack. He's not rude (unless you respond to him aggressively as you did), and you should understand that English is his second language and you just might not be catching the subtle nature of his humor.. He is quite a technical expert and has contributed vastly to the Clip-Share community. He knows how to set up a working Clip-share site and has come up with many innovative solutions (he is a good guy to be friends with).

1- what is the best HARDWARE SPECS that u know to make the site as fast as tube1 or pornhub ?
2- what is the best VIDEO CONVERSION METHOD that u know to match THE BAD quality of yahoo videos ?

perspicacious, thank for ur detailed answer, I wish I read ur post b4 my last replay to SIR dargre, I know he is an expert but not helpful specially with first impressions
I mentioned CS for the sites that use it only but then I was asking about the hardware and the quality of videos so when I said configuration meant to be the hardware and quality not CS (english is my second language too, so it might be my mistake also)
about the host, I'm planning to host a dedicated with Verio (suppliers of the planet), but the question is what to get ? 1 server with large memory and storage (the HP they have is up to 32GB RAM and the storage is up to 9TB), or multi servers with less RAM and storage.
the clipshare demo is not bad in loading the pages, way better than other sites I tested.
about yahoo and cloud computing I honestly dont know anything about it, but the quality of there videos are not like any other sites, so I thought it is the way they convert the video with low quality.

thank u so much again for taking the time to explain. if u recommend a setting for the servers plz msg me with ur opinion.
