Vista templates: using 2.6 for 3.01

THEORETICALLY, the Vista templates of 2.5/2.6 (all 3 color-flavors) CAN be used with 3.0.1, as the old variable names have been retained form 2.5/2.6 to 3.0.1. Of course, if you use they like they are now, you will end up with a site looking like a 2.5/2.6 site, since the templates do not yet support the added functionality of 3.0.1. Plus, a few pages need editing, especially the view_video.tpl, to use the new Flash Player.
I HAVE NOT YET TESTED the 2.6 Vista templates for 3.0.1 FULL compatibility. Before we make these templates fully compatible with 3.0.1, there is a chance we slightly modify them, to be compatible with 3.0.1, using just the old 2.6 functions they have now, until a full-compatible release of these templates is ready.

Has anyone actually tried this? I'm tempted but that "THEORETICALLY" and "I HAVE NOT YET TESTED" and "a few pages need editing" has me thinking twice.

I'd be happy with the same look/feel as 2.6 but with the security etc. featuers of 3.

I thought I've read a few places in these forums where Aryos and Chris have said there were MANY changes in the template layout from 2.6 to 3.0

We've waited this long, what's another couple of days (hopefully).

Hmm "many" sounds even worse .

The achilles heel for my 2.6 site was the upload... of the several people i had test uploads all of them told me it was "broken" and couldn't upload what they wanted... it was the dissallowed character problem. Making the simple fix revleaved deeper problems, so v3 will be our beginning.

Otherwise a great script! Looking forward.

From the ClipShareTemplates site:

3.0 DarkMatter and 3.0 ClearWater will be released soon after Clip-share 3.0 Final is released, Clip-share 3.0 Final changes ALOT from the current Release Candidate. Clip-share 3.0.1 RC7 - You could call this version an advanced beta version.

The code varies between the two alot so we canno’t work on a RC7 version and then have the FInal come out just when we are finished. If we did this we could not provide the FREE upgrade from 2.6 DarkMatter / ClearWater to 3.0 DarkMatter / ClearWater.

We will have an optional install fee if you do not wish to do the upgrade yourself, This is how we will try and cover costs as a company but users who can update the sites themselves will not inccur fee’s.

The Install fee will be low, but is yet undecided for 3.0.
