Admin Password MD5 Security

Why isn't the admin password MD5 protected?

Just password protect the admin directory. then you have 2 passwords to get get in. Believe me, I get attacked constantly for the material on my site, and no ones yet gotten into admin. They crack my number 1 user and delete the 2 videos I put up, delete my icon and any text, but they never get in the back end. Plus you can give your other admins each their own log in and pass and if something is broken into, you can find out your leak by reviewing the logs.
