Default Shared Server

Can this script be installed successfully on a shared server?

Hey TKB,
My advice would be that you should go straight for a virtual dedicated server (VDS), pay the extra module setup and script install.

Whilst it is possible to run the script on a shared server, you may find yourself in need of a VDS quite quickly purely because of the server load.
I believe the majority of clip-share owners are using a VDS as a minimum and a few have gone straight to Dedicated servers.

As far as it being installed correctly on a shared server depends entirely on you as to wether you have all the requirements:

Linux Server (some old distributions are not supported)
Apache Web Server
MySQL (version 4 or higher)
PHP (version 4.3 or higher)

PHP Configuration:
safe_mode = off
register_globals = on (recommended)
open_basedir = (no value)
output_buffering = on
upload_max_filesize = 100M (recommended maximum video upload size in MB)
post_max_size = 100M (recommended maximum video upload size in MB)

GD Library 2 or higher
FFmpeg (http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu)
FFmpeg-PHP (http://ffmpeg-php.sourceforge.net)
Mplayer + Mencoder (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html)
flv2tool (http://inlet-media.de/flvtool2)
Libogg + Libvorbis (http://www.xiph.org/downloads)
LAME MP3 Encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net)

If you are confident you can completely install all the modules correctly then you should have no problems. I have only noticed one user on these forums using a shared server, however they have now moved to a VDS.

Hope this helps in some way, just as a reference, quite a few of us are succesfully using the godaddy VDS package for $29.99pm with 10GB Diskspace & 500GB Bandwidth.

Best wishes
Joe

Very good answer Joe

I should add that on a shared hosting account, we can't install the required modules, if they are not installed, because you won't be able to provide root access.

i heard godaddy does not allow streaming videos on their shared and vds? I just contacted them a few weeks before I got cirtex shared hosting and they said I had to get a dedicated for clipshare.

shared hosting actually works if you only allow embedding and testing your own site. if you want to open up your space to the real video you may need VPS OR Dedicated.

I agree!!!

i read a lot of compliants about cirtex on here, but i been with them for two years now and they been very good to me. Solve every problem i've had quickly. I would hate to leave them now and cant get the same treatment at a different company. Im sticking with cirtex until the end.

my site is well beyond 15, more like 5000+. I make $25,000+ a month from memberships. i have real members who upload their own vids, and not steal from other sites like most of you have. I have a private community site.

dont bother trying to research me, this user name is new on here for me. My
old one i dont use anymore.

But my point is this, rather i have 15 or 5000, Cirtex has been really helpful to me, and i experience downtime maybe once every 6months and once i submit the ticket its back up 5min or less.

Im sorry to hear the bad experiences some have, but mine been good.
